Newmarket Holidays / Best of New Zealand

New Zealand was dubbed both “God’s Own Country” and “Paradise of the Pacific” as far back as the early 1800s. The unique landscape is home to one of the most unique bioregions on the planet, plus several indigenous species which cannot be found anywhere else, including the flightless Kiwi bird, which New Zealanders have adopted as their national symbol and even their nickname. The traditional Maori tribal culture is still practiced and celebrated today, and the flora, fauna and geography are absolutely stunning. For visitors from the UK, a holiday to New Zealand is often the trip of a lifetime, being situated as it is almost exactly halfway around the world. Newmarket Holidays have added New Zealand to their Faraway brochure and are now offering excellent value-for-money trips to this gorgeous set of islands.

A Newmarket Holidays Best of New Zealand trip begins with flights from London to Christchurch, known locally as the “Garden City”. Here travellers will enjoy a two-night stay and ample opportunity to relax after the long flight. After getting a good night’s sleep, there is an optional excursion to Kaikoura on the east coast, which includes a whale watching trip. Day five sees a journey across the Canterbury Plains towards the Southern Alps, which include Mount Cook, the highest mountain in New Zealand. This is followed by a two-night stay in Queenstown, where the braver of the guests are invited to try a number of thrill-seeking activities such as white water rafting or bungee jumping! For those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground, an optional trip to view the spectacular Milford Sound is available.

Newmarket HolidaysA two-night stay at the Fox Glacier provides some more incredible and unique sightseeing opportunities, as do the coastal rainforests and limestone outcrops which dot the shoreline of this region. Two evenings in Nelson include a boat trip and a visit to the Abel Tasman National Park, before heading over to begin the exploration of the North Island where volcanoes, hot springs, bubbling mud pools and the extraordinary Waitomo underground caves await. A traditional Maori evening is planned, featuring a Hangi feast and a plethora of cultural music, dancing and entertainment.

The stunning white sand beaches of Paihia and a trip to the country’s northernmost point, Cape Reinga, conclude this eventful trip, followed by overnight flights out of Auckland and arrival back in London on day 18.
